Data Management, Collaboration and PDM#
This section goes beyond the basics of working with others in Fusion. It covers designing a durable hub, project and folder structure, roles and permissions, sharing and public links, and reviews, markups and comments, then versions, milestones and lifecycle states, and branching and merging.
It also covers Autodesk Docs and Autodesk Construction Cloud, Fusion Manage and PDM concepts, backup, offline work and export, and team administration. It is for intermediate users and team administrators.
Pages in this section#
- Hubs, Projects and Folder Architecture (intermediate): Design a durable hub, project and folder structure for teams: what each level controls, naming rules, templates, migration and cleanup.
- Roles and Permissions (intermediate): How Fusion project roles, hub groups and folder permissions work, how to plan least-privilege access, and how to audit and troubleshoot it.
- Sharing and Public Links (intermediate): Choose the right way to share a Fusion design: project membership, private invitations, public share links, exports and web viewing, with security trade-offs.
- Versions, Milestones and Lifecycle States (intermediate): Go beyond basic version history: version semantics, milestones as release points, lifecycle states, revision schemes and how they interact with references.
- Branching and Merging (advanced): How to run parallel design variants in Fusion using copies, branch-style workflows and manual or feature-based merging, and what native tools exist.
- Reviews, Markups and Comments (intermediate): Run structured design reviews in Fusion using comments, view-attached annotations, markups, mentions and notifications, and track issues to closure.
- Autodesk Docs and Autodesk Construction Cloud (advanced): How Fusion connects to Autodesk Docs and Autodesk Construction Cloud: shared hubs, Docs permissions, publishing, file types, and when to use each platform.
- Fusion Manage and PDM Concepts (advanced): Product data management concepts and how Fusion Manage and general cloud PDM concepts relate to Fusion: items, BOMs, change orders, workflows, check-in/out.
- Backup, Offline Work and Export (intermediate): Protect your Fusion data: offline mode behaviour, local cache, manual and automated backups, archive exports, retention, and disaster recovery planning.
- Admin Console and Team Best Practices (advanced): Administer Fusion for a team through the Autodesk Account admin pages: users, seats, teams, SSO, security, reporting, plus a practical team playbook.
Before you start#
Folder-level roles do not apply to legacy projects; Autodesk points to a support article on upgrading a legacy project. Comment tools differ between the desktop client and the Fusion web client.
Confirmed vs not confirmed#
Not confirmed in Autodesk's documentation: revoking a single public link, SSO and MFA controls, Issues, RFIs and Transmittals in Fusion, Docs-style roles, copying timeline features between designs, and milestone retention. The documented offline rule is last-save-wins.
