Solid Modeling

Overview of Fusion's solid-modeling tools: creating, modifying, patterning, and directly editing 3D bodies.

Solid Modeling#

This section covers Fusion's tools for building and changing 3D solid bodies. It starts with the profile-based features (Extrude, Revolve, Sweep, Loft, Coil and Pipe), then covers dress-up and detail features such as Fillet, Chamfer, Hole, Thread, Shell, Draft, Rib, Web and Emboss.

It also covers moving and copying, mirroring and patterning, combining and splitting bodies, construction geometry, and direct editing with Press Pull. Use it after you can draw a sketch; it is aimed at beginners and intermediate users.

Pages in this section#

  1. Extrude Command (beginner): Turn closed sketch profiles into solids with Extrude.
  2. Revolve Command (beginner): Spin a sketch profile around an axis to make shafts.
  3. Sweep Command (intermediate): Move a profile along a path, optionally controlled by a guide rail.
  4. Loft Command (intermediate): Blend between two or more profiles with rails.
  5. Rib, Web, and Emboss (intermediate): Add stiffeners with Rib and Web, and wrap raised or engraved text and artwork onto faces with Emboss.
  6. Hole and Thread (beginner): Place simple, counterbore, and countersink holes, add tapped or clearance threads.
  7. Fillet and Chamfer (beginner): Round or bevel edges with constant, variable, and chord-length fillets.
  8. Shell, Draft, and Scale (intermediate): Hollow solids with Shell, add mold-release angles with Draft.
  9. Combine, Split, Offset, and Boundary Fill (intermediate): Boolean operations, splitting bodies and faces, offsetting faces.
  10. Mirror and Patterns (intermediate): Duplicate features, faces, bodies, and components with Mirror and rectangular.
  11. Coil and Pipe (intermediate): Create springs, screws, and spirals with Coil, and round or square tubing along any path with Pipe.
  12. Construction Planes, Axes, and Points (beginner): Build reference planes, axes, and points from existing geometry so sketches.
  13. Move/Copy (beginner): Reposition bodies, components, faces, and sketch objects with free move.
  14. Press Pull and Direct Modeling (intermediate): Edit faces and edges directly with Press Pull.

Confirmed vs not confirmed#

Not confirmed in Autodesk's documentation: how Move/Copy interacts with joints and grounded components, how Press Pull is recorded on imported or direct bodies, how Scale interacts with dimensions and parameters, the Coil Rotation icon behavior, and the Revolve drag-across-the-axis diameter behavior.
